++ANSWERWhat is the SIFT?

The Selection Instrument for Flight Training (SIFT) is utilized by the Army to determine if candidates are qualified for selection for flight officer training programs. The exam is designed to test multiple different aspects of potential candidates, which is intended to be predictors of training performance.ANSWER++

++ANSWERDo I need to take the SIFT?

The SIFT exam is required for acceptance to the US Army Warrant Officer Flight Training (WOFT) program.ANSWER++

++ANSWERWhere can I take the SIFT?

Candidates may take the exam at Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS), US Army Education Centers, Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) units, and select US Army personnel testing centers.ANSWER++

++ANSWERWhat is on the SIFT?

There are 7 sections on the SIFT as follows:

  1. Simple Drawings (SD) – 100 questions

  2. Hidden Figures (HF) – 50 questions

  3. Army Aviation Information Test (AAIT) – 40 questions

  4. Spatial Apperception Test (SAT) – 25 questions

  5. Reading Comprehension Test (RCT) – 20 questions

  6. Math Skills Test (MST) – test length varies

  7. Mechanical Comprehension Test (MCT) – test length variesANSWER++

++ANSWERWhat is computer adaptive testing?

Computer adaptive testing (CAT) allows the test administrators to get a more complete view of your skills in less time and with fewer questions. These tests start with a question of average difficulty. If you answer this question correctly, the next question will be harder; if you answer it incorrectly, the next one will be easier. This continues as you go through the section, with questions getting harder or easier based on how well you perform. Once you’ve answered enough questions for the computer to determine your score, that section of the test will end. On the SIFT, the Math Skills Test and the Mechanical Comprehension Test are CAT tests.ANSWER++

++ANSWERHow many questions are on the SIFT?

There are a total of 235 multiple-choice questions, plus the CAT exams, which can vary in time and length.ANSWER++

++ANSWERHow is the SIFT administered?

The SIFT is administered at several locations, including Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPs), Post-servicing Education Centers, and ROTC Programs/Military Academies. Contact your recruiter to schedule your SIFT testing appointment.ANSWER++

++ANSWERHow long is the SIFT exam?

The SIFT test itself is a total of two hours and twelve minutes. Allow at least two and a half hours to complete the exam, which includes time for candidate verification and test registration, taking the exam, and an authorized break as designated by the test proctor.ANSWER++

++ANSWERHow is the SIFT Scored?

The SIFT’s current minimum passing score is a 40, but a score of 60+ gives you a higher chance of selection into the Army. Subtests are scored using a compensatory method; the effects of attaining a low score on one subtest may be reduced by receiving a high score on another subtest.ANSWER++

++ANSWERHow do you get your SIFT score?

Results from taking the SIFT are available immediately after completing the exam. The test control officer (TCO) will provide you with a score letter. Make sure the score letter is signed by the TCO before leaving the testing location.ANSWER++

++ANSWERCan I retake the SIFT?

Candidates may take the SIFT exam twice in a lifetime. Once the initial exam is completed, you must wait at least 180 days to pass before attempting a retest. Once you pass the SIFT test with a qualifying score, you may not retake the exam to attain a higher score.ANSWER++

++ANSWERCan I fail the SIFT?

If you fail to attain a qualifying score after taking the SIFT twice, you are barred from taking the SIFT again.ANSWER++
